We are looking for an interventional or a diagnostic consultant neuroradiologist to join our neuroradiology group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

We are a well-established and forward thinking group, with evidence of excellent innovative practice. You would join a group of nine full time consultants, four of whom currently perform intervention. Having increased in size over the last few years we are already well placed to extend our existing IAT service to full cover in the near future.

The job description describes rota plans in detail. You will contribute to a hybrid diagnostic/interventional rota which currently provides 6 day interventional cover. Our intention is to separate the diagnostic and interventional rotas to enable 24/7 intra-arterial thrombolysis for stroke in the near future.

As well as subspecialist training in diagnostic neuroradiology, you will need to have a CCT or be on the GMC’s Specialist Register. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply. You will also be expected to demonstrate your competence to communicate in spoken and written English.

The care group has undergone significant modernisation in the last five years as a result of the managed equipment service with new equipment and facilities throughout the care group. Radiology has a high profile within the Trust and across the region.

The Wessex Neurological Centre provides a dedicated, integrated 24 hour acute neurosurgical and neurological assessment, investigation and treatment service to adult and children of the former Wessex Region, West Sussex and the Channel Islands. Southampton is a major paediatric multitrauma centre, and neuroradiologists support imaging of brain and spinal trauma.

We’ve worked hard as a trust to make improve the efficiency of our services and as a result, we are currently in financial surplus. We are one of England's largest acute teaching trusts and have recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. In the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked; fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care, seventh in the country for staff engagement

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.
