Sister band 6 – GI surgery nursing leadership team

Come and join our GI surgery nursing leadership team, We are two 18 bedded surgical wards, specialising in the lower gastro intestinal system predominantly oncological and inflammatory bowel disease surgery and upper gastro intestinal procedures. The services comprise of consultants, specialist registrars and colorectal specialist nurses together with a large supporting multidisciplinary team. The wards have developed and continue to embed in practice the principles of enhanced recovery after surgery; we were the first in UHS to develop enhanced recovery which has since been rolled out across other specialities.

The band 6 sister role will be responsible for assisting the ward manager in the management of the department over the 24hour period, to ensure high standards of patient care are maintained acting as a credible role model and patients advocate at all times using the NMC professional code of conduct as the framework for nursing practice.

We embrace innovative thinking here in general surgery and are looking for motivated, enthusiastic individuals, who are also keen team players to join the GI surgery nursing leadership team.  Candidates should be energetic and forward thinking, have the ability to manage a team and demonstrate sound, innovative leadership styles and skills for the ever evolving environment. Excellent communication, decision-making and motivation skills are key qualities and attributes to possess. You will need to demonstrate continuing professional development and a strong commitment to developing others and have an understanding of how to improve and provide safe, quality care for patients and their relatives.

With regards to quality, we have been successful in achieving full accreditation for our clinical accreditation Scheme this is something that we are extremely proud of achieving together as a team, we have an outstanding record of no Hospital Acquired Grade 4 or Grade 3 Pressure Ulcers for over four and a half years.

As a care group we are keen to support and invest in you and have in place a career development pathway which includes surgical study days and our principles of surgical nursing module (POSN) which we can offer at MSC level - this course is the first in the UK specifically designed for surgical nurses. In addition you will be offered opportunities to develop both clinically and professionally within our supportive environment.
