University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Physiotherapist to join our dynamic Orthopaedic Therapy team.

We would welcome applications from suitable candidates seeking either Full-time (37.5 hours per week) or part-time hours of at least 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week) or more. Please state your preference in your supporting statement.

ABOUT THE TEAM

We pride ourselves on providing high quality care to patients on the busy Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, Day Surgery Unit and Rehabilitation Ward. The department has an excellent track record in leading and delivering service evaluations, audit, research and improvement initiatives.

UHS is a Major Trauma Centre and has excellent links with the University of Southampton, which helps to support our commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate student education. Our Specialist Physiotherapists are a resource for other local, regional and national centres providing advice and teaching regarding the ongoing management of complex patients. The Trust is proud to demonstrate a commitment to supporting the Health and Well-being of its staff, with established schemes which include self referral to free Physiotherapy advice and treatment, subsidised gym memberships, nutritional/dietary programmes, exercise/activity classes, and health screening amongst other measures.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The successful applicant will be able to call upon the support of an established team of experienced therapists, including Clinical Specialists and Consultant Physiotherapists and will both receive and contribute to a robust in-service training programme. Education, audit and service improvement are at the heart of our team’s ethos. The post holder will also provide supervision and take an active role in the development of their band 2 – 6 therapy colleagues and students.

Within our combined Therapy Department, we employ well over 200 WTE Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and B2-4 Therapy support staff.

Currently our Orthopaedic therapy core hours are 08:00 until up to 18:00 dependent on individual working patterns. However, all our Therapy staff are required to be able to undertake flexible working over a 7 day period (as part of a roster system where relevant e.g. weekend service) between 7.30am and 8.30pm in order to ensure we are able to respond to service demand and future developments.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Physiotherapist that can demonstrate a sound background of Orthopaedic experience, knowledge and skills to join our Adult Orthopaedic Therapy Department. The successful applicant will join our established Orthopaedic therapy leadership team on the combined major trauma and elective Orthopaedic Unit.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

As one of the largest acute teaching Trust’s in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. We believe you deserve the best possible surroundings in which to do your job and we want to support you in doing your job to the best of your ability.

As a Trust, we support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss this at interview. Our LiveWell and inspire programme offers opportunities, support and advice, including smoking cessation services, exercise and activity classes, and support for mental health.

UHS employees are able to access a huge range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata) on appointment, can access on-site nursery facilities (subject to availability), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

ABOUT OUR TRUST AND SOUTHAMPTON

UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
