An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic physiotherapist to join our band 6 rotations within the children’s therapy department in Southampton Children’s Hospital – University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).
The Children’s Hospital is one of 10 largest children’s hospitals within the UK and located within University Hospital Southampton which is a large regional teaching hospital with links to the university and Welcome Trust research facility. Children’s services have been graded as ‘good’ by CQC. We have a vast range of Paediatric specialities including a level 3 PICU, and being a designated Major Trauma, neurosurgical, neuro-rehabilitation and cardiac centre.
The successful post holder will become an integral part of our 30 strong combined Paediatric Occupational and Physiotherapy Therapy team and wider Therapy services department of over 240 staff.
The post holder will gain experience in multiple Paediatric Therapy specialities during 9 month rotations in the following :
- Respiratory care: Intensive care, high dependency, medicine and surgery
- Neurology (1): Acute inpatient rehabilitation
- Neurology (2): Bursledon House rehabilitation unit, neuro-orthopaedics and neurology.
- Orthopaedics: Inpatient, outpatient and hydrotherapy caseloads.
- Neonatology: Inclusive of neonatal unit, high care areas and developmental caseload of inpatients and outpatients.
- Neuromuscular: Regional clinics and outpatients
- Naomi House Hospice: provide expert hospice based therapeutic care to more than 340 life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and their extended families from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the Isle of Wight.
The successful applicants will be supported within the specialities by specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists allowing excellent opportunity for further developing clinical and theoretical skills. They will work in a dynamic and proactive Therapy team participating in regular audits and teaching.
The successful applicant will be expected to work within our team philosophy, which is “We strongly believe in team working in a happy working environment. Workloads are shared and communication/ support is strongly encouraged. We are mutually responsible for the service and its development, and expect everyone to carry out a certain level of responsibility.”
The successful post holder should ideally have completed a comprehensive B5 rotation position and had On-call experience. Previous paediatric experience is an essential criteria however this does not need to be hospital based experience; the applicant must be keen, enthusiastic and have a definite desire to work within paediatrics.
The UHS Therapy services department runs a 7 day service, using a rota system so weekend working and On-call will be expected.
