We are looking for an innovative and experienced HCPC registered therapy radiographer with proven management skills, to be the professional lead of our dedicated team of therapy radiographers and to be responsible for the management and delivery of the clinical oncology radiotherapy service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

Working closely with the lead clinical oncologist and head of radiotherapy physics, you will join a team providing oncology services to a population of approximately 1.25 million people in Hampshire, including the residents of the Channel Islands. We are committed to sustaining low waiting times as part of the Wessex Clinical Network and you will work continuously to improve the service we provide.

As well as experience of management in a medium to large radiotherapy service, you will need to demonstrate:

  • excellent leadership qualities
  • excellent communication skills
  • a track record of developing and delivering a high quality service

The department is ISO 9001/2008 accredited and is currently equipped with six beam matched Elekta Linac’s with MLC and On Board Imaging, two CT simulators with ProSoma, LDR and HDR Brachytherapy and an Xstrahl superficial unit.

We are partially through a fully funded equipment replacement program, installing state of the art Elekta Linacs. Our first replacement Linac featuring an Agility head, ExacTrac imaging, Hexapod couch and Apex DMLC has been installed and is in clinical use.

We are an innovative centre, with a dedicated clinical trials team and a range of specialist delivery techniques, including SRS/T, SABR and TBI. An increasing number of patients are recruited to national and international radiotherapy trials. We are also a clinical placement site for student radiographers from Portsmouth University.

We’ve worked hard as a Trust to make improve the efficiency of our services and as a result, we are currently in financial surplus. We are one of England's largest acute teaching trusts and have recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. In the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked;

-              seventh in the country for staff engagement

-              fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest national park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.

The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.

If you are interested in applying for this role, we would encourage you to get in touch using the contact information below with any questions or if you would like to arrange an informal visit.
