Applicants are invited to apply for the post of full time locum consultant radiologist – breast imaging.   This post is fixed term for 1 year.


We are looking for a maternity locum consultant radiologist with specialist training in breast imaging to join our breast radiology team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.


You will join an established team of seven consultants providing symptomatic services to the local population. In addition screening is provided through the Southampton and Salisbury Breast Screening Unit. This post does not include on call. Registrar training and education are core activities within the group, and a commitment to research is also encouraged.

A family history clinic is supported by the regional genetics service on site and the unit provides high risk (NHSBSP) and moderate risk screening.  We offer a full spectrum of imaging and biopsy facilities (including digital breast tomosynthesis, VAE and MRI guided biopsy).

The care group has undergone significant modernisation in the last five years as a result of the managed equipment service with new equipment and facilities throughout the care group. Radiology has a high profile within the Trust and across the region.


The post holder and other consultant colleagues are expected to cover absences on annual or study leave, so far as is practicable and will be required to participate in medical audit and continuing medical education.

Training and Research Duties

UHSFT is a large teaching hospital and is a nationally recognised centre for clinical and scientific research. 

The post holder may be expected to take part in the teaching of undergraduate and junior medical staff and also in the teaching of trainee Radiologists at all stages.  Participation in the teaching of other clinical staff may also be expected.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
