UHS Private Patient Services are looking to appoint a Private Patient Medical Secretary for an initial period of twelve months.

This is an excellent opportunity for keen, enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to shape the processes and procedures within the front of house private patient services at UHS.

The post holders will be based within the Main Entrance along with the Front of House reception service where you will be providing a first class private medical secretarial to our registered consultants and a reception service to patients and their families.

The service comprises of working with multi-disciplinary professionals including nurses, doctors, administrators, coordinators and managers. The post holders will develop and implement a private medical secretarial service to our consultants in conjunction with the Private Patient and Overseas Manager, ensuring that we embed a high quality secretarial service for the private patient service. The post holders will establish and provide vital secretarial services to the registered consultants, which will be highly valued and essential in ensuring that the Consultants and Trust meets the Competition Marketing Authority obligations amongst other key requirements.

You will need to be able to work independently to tight deadlines with minimal supervision and prioritise conflicting tasks effectively. You will be required to work closely with the front of house reception team, providing cross cover support as required, and work closely with the private patient coordinators to ensure a smooth transition into the services for private patients, including cross cover during annual leave for patient telephone calls and enquiries.

To fulfil this challenging role, applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience of maintaining accurate records
  • Experienced of being a medical secretary and generating own medical letters (without using transcription services)
  • Understanding of private patient services at UHS.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills using own judgement and initiative
  • Excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy reception area.
  • Emotional resilience required for high volumes of patients and visitors.
  • Ability to work flexibly in order to switch tasks and re-prioritise work at very short notice
  • Excellent team working abilities.
  • Excellent patient facing communications skills
  • Experience of managing and developing administrative processes within an NHS environment desirable.

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
