Southampton Critical Care currently has 50 adult ventilator dependent beds plus 60 high care (Level 2) beds and a further 6 Level 3 beds have been built to open in spring 2021. The ICU pharmacy team looks after a large variety of critical care and high care patients including general, surgical, neurological/neurosurgical and cardiac/cardiothoracic surgical patients.
The Clinical Pharmacy team for Critical Care is led by a Consultant Pharmacist supported by seven advanced level practitioners including prescribers of parenteral nutrition. The large clinical pharmacy team at UHS consists of over 80 pharmacists including 45 prescribers.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to work as part of a very experienced and highly regarded team of critical care pharmacists, solving pharmaceutical problems for critically ill patients, including those in theatres. This includes review of Metavision prescriptions and attending consultant led ward rounds as well as accessing JAC electronic prescriptions. Also analysis drug usage data, guideline production and compiling drug file data
We are looking for a pharmacist with experience in this area or someone with transferable clinical skills who wants to expand their portfolio of practice for a 7 month secondment. Ideally, you will be a qualified non-medical prescriber or have a willingness to learn about the role of pharmacist non-medical prescribers.
We need a pharmacist who is willing to be trained and developed in Critical Care to deliver advanced level practice. If you have enthusiasm and a sense of adventure then we can provide the training. You should have a clinical diploma and at least 5 years-experience of working in clinical pharmacy including both medicine and surgery, and ideally some experience of working in a High Care/Intensive Care environment
