An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) for a Senior Medicines Management Technician. If you would like the opportunity to provide near patient pharmacy services in a dynamic and exciting environment we would like to hear from you.

ABOUT THE TEAM

If you have the enthusiasm and are committed to team working with good communication skills, we can provide additional training and development to support you.  We have a strong focus on developing our technicians with in-house competencies, exposure to management for junior staff and leadership skills. The Medicines Management team consists of nearly 40 technicians of varying grades, and 6 support workers.

As a department we have an ethos for continuing professional development and training for all our staff. The post-holder will be required to undertake further study in:

  • Support with in-house competencies

  • Medicines Management (accredited)

  • Patient counselling

  • Individual personal development plans

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidates to make a difference to a wide variety of patients across different clinical specialities. On top of this, there is the opportunity to experience other pharmacy department specialities i.e. Aseptics, training, IT, dispensary or clinical trials. If you are keen to learn more about key procedures or specialities within the hospital then this can be arranged. For those looking for a managerial career, we are a large department with a track record in enhancing technician’s leadership qualities, and we have a number of technicians who manage their own services.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will be a key member of a range of teams across the department and the hospital, supporting busy wards and clinical areas, working closely with a range of health care professionals and our extensive Pharmacist team.  Your work will include:

  • Initiating the medicines reconciliation process.

  • Ensuring our patients have sufficient supplies of medicines for their hospital stay and beyond.

  • Counselling and educating patients on their medicines

  • Playing an important and proactive role in the discharge process to facilitate safe and effective discharge.

  • Extended hours and weekend working to support patient care

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC

  • Hospital pharmacy experience desirable

  • Demonstrates being able to organise their and others workload and prioritise effectively

  • Experience of JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system

  • Work weekends, late nights and bank holidays as per rota

  • Demonstrate times when able to work effectively under pressure

  • Able to use initiative, but know their own limitations

  • Polite and friendly

  • Punctual
