At Southampton we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our service and manage the team within the Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) section of the unit.
With your previous experience in aseptic preparation and background in pharmacy your role will be to lead the TPN team working with the Technical Services Unit (TSU) manager and Lead Technician for Central Intravenous Additive Drugs (CIVA’s) to develop the service to meet changing customer needs, to ensure the highest possible standards of care are provided to patients. As part of your role you will be involved in a number of key projects within the unit, including continued aseptic facilities review, developing the current TPN IT system, automation and developing the PN service in line with legislation and approved guidance. The post holder would be fully supported working closely with the pharmacy quality assurance (QA) team.
The post holder will be the lead technician (Band 6) for the TPN unit, which provides specialist TPN needs for surgery, ITU, paediatric and neonatal patients. The facilities use Laminar Flow Cabinets with automated compounders for the preparation of parenteral nutrition within the clean room suite. The TSU service also prepares Central Intravenous Additive Drugs (CIVAS), a growing and extensive number of injectable clinical trials treatments, and provides small-scale non-sterile extemps and a range of specialist emergency drugs kits.
The post holder will be responsible for managing and training technical and support staff in the TPN section of the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit (TSU). Responsible for implementing changes within the TPN section under the direction of the Pharmacy Technical Services Manager.
