We are looking to recruit an administrative staff member into the perioperative medicine team that can support the department within a hybrid role. You will have the opportunity to perform an administrative role with some increased opportunities for patient interaction and health promotion as part of a fast growing and changing service.

About the Team:

The post sits within the Perioperative Medicine Team who purpose is to assess and optimise patients’ physical health prior to surgery. We are one of the leading Perioperative teams in the country providing services for over 1000 patients a year. The team runs clinics including exercise testing, shared decision making consultations, anaemia treatment and patient education sessions.

Our team prides itself in being transformational and providing a high quality experience to patients. We are continually advancing with a team of both permanent staff and those on secondment roles taking on new projects. 

Main duties of the job

This involves both administrative duties such as clinic booking and outcoming and some patient contact duties including supporting teaching around alcohol and smoking reduction to patients in an online surgery school and supporting the running of CPET clinics when appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • You will work within the Perioperative Medicine (POM) Team taking phone calls and referrals from both staff and patients to the department.
  • You will book and arrange clinics primarily for the different services within perioperative medicine including CPET, Surgery School and Anaemia
  • You will support the weekly Surgery School by providing education to the patients around health improvement prior to surgery as planned by the team.
  • You may on occasion be required to support the running of CPET exercise testing by the clinical physiology team
  • You will need to maintain databases of patients through the service including recording and updating patient information and outcomes
  •  
  • We are looking for someone with experience in administrative roles within the UHS who is also able to take on an increased level of patient interaction in addition to this by supporting surgery school sessions. This would require.

    The department is open Mondays to Fridays between 8am and 4pm with some opportunity to work from home on occasions. Working times would be negotiable with successful applicants but some flexibility would also be required.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of secondary education with literacy and numeracy skills demonstrable to GSCE pass level or equivalent standard
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Admin or equivalent level of experience
  • RSA 2 word processing/typing or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
  • Courses / further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development
  • Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • RSA 3

Previous or relevant experience necessary

  • Able to learn and assimilate information quickly
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines, prioritise and multi-task
