We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our UKAS accredited department of laboratory medicine to become a Specialist Biomedical Scientist. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience – working in a modern and well-equipped laboratory, providing an extensive repertoire of investigations.

The Biochemistry team is a diverse group of all different grades of Scientist, working together to further healthcare and provide the best service possible for patients.

Job 1
We are looking to appoint a band 6 BMS to primarily work in the laboratory during core hours to aid in the maintenance and continuity of staff training, the quality management system and assist in the general running of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the training officer in the following of new staff training plans and assist in continual competence evaluation. They will be expected to lead non-conformance investigations and troubleshoot analyser issues as examples of their daily duties. However, the person appointed will also be expected to be able to work as part of the shift system to cover gaps in the rota on a temporary basis (including nights and weekends) as necessary within the automated biochemistry department.
Job 2
We are looking to appoint a band 6 BMS to work as part of our 24/7 shift system. You will be hard working, flexible and able to deal with dynamically changing situations within the laboratory. As well as performing general BMS duties that will keep the laboratory functioning you will assisting in the running and maintaining of the automated biochemistry department. You will assist in training staff and helping maintain the quality management system.
We are looking to appoint all successful candidates to band 6, but may appoint the band 5 for the duration of the probation period based on the candidates experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and competency which will be assessed at interview. Appointment to band 6 will be determined after this period, if not initially appointed to this band or a set period of time to allow the candidate to develop the required knowledge, skills and qualifications required for this post.
