Online applications are invited for a full time consultant paediatric urologist.  This is a permanent appointment. The successful applicant will have completed subspecialty training in paediatric surgery/urology and a fellowship in paediatric urology. The post holder will join a team of 3 paediatric urologists and 7 general paediatric and neonatal surgeons. The department provides the full range of paediatric urology services to a region of approx 3 million. The urology and general surgery services are separate for both elective and emergency activity but remain closely aligned for educational, governance and management activities.

We are looking to appoint a well-motivated individual with a broad paediatric urology training and experience. Qualifications and skills in minimally invasive surgery, reconstructive surgery and DSD are highly desirable.

The department has a strong ethos in educational and research and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this activity.

All other major paediatric specialities are provided within the Southampton Children’s Hospital including cardiology, intensive care, dermatology, respiratory, ENT, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neonatolgy (level 3), neurology, orthopaedics (including spinal), paediatric and neonatal surgery, haemato-oncology and radiology. The hospital offers ample opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and excellent facilities for research and clinical care.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their competence to communicate in spoken and written English. Applicants should have a CCT or be on the GMC’s Specialist Register.  Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
