Online applicants are invited to apply for a senior medical retina and vitreoretinal fellow post in ophthalmology. This post is fixed term for 12 months. It will provide the applicants with a broad grounding in the diagnosis and management of retinal disease. You will have the opportunity to attend 2-3 vitreoretinal theatre sessions per week and to be trained by three consultant Vitreoretinal surgeons and also join outpatient clinics with some of the medical retina consultants. There is an active academic interest within the department and the successful applicant would be given the opportunity to do clinical research.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Vitreoretinal team is led by 3 consultant ophthalmologists supported by fellows and trainees. The Southampton Eye Unit is a tertiary referral centre for Vitreoretinal surgery supporting the Wessex Region. The Medical Retina team is led by Professor Andrew Lotery and 6 other consultant ophthalmologists.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Timetable is made up of 2-3 theatre sessions per week aswell as clinics alongside the VR and MR consultants
  • There are 1-2 intravitreal injection sessions included in the timetable
  • The post also supports the general on call for ophthalmology on a 1 in 16 rota

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)             

Basic Salary -  MT04        £48,075

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
