An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated band 5 nurse to work within our team.  The eye short stay unit offers services for inpatients, day surgeries and eye casualty services at night. We have highly skilled and experienced nurses to provide care and treatment to all our patients.

Are you a dynamic and motivated band 5 who is keen to expand their knowledge and skills? Do you want the opportunity to work on a busy eye ward and build upon and develop your ophthalmic knowledge and skills? This role will allow you to demonstrate your nursing and specialised skills as an ophthalmic nurse.

The Eye short stay unit is part of a regional referral centre for Ophthalmology and as such it is a fast paced unit that relies on team working and excellent interpersonal skills. The work is varied and immensely satisfying, caring for patients who have various levels and causes of visual impairment and are subsequently receiving inpatient or day case care. This is supplemented with pre and post operative care.

The unit is open 24hours a day 7 days a week and offers an out of hours casualty service. The ability to work flexibly to include shifts incorporating nights and weekends is essential. Job share applicants will be welcomed.

You will be given the required training and development within the eye unit which will allow you to progress independently managing patients with acute and chronic eye conditions and pre and post operative patients.

You will be working alongside experienced nurses, doctors and allied health professionals delivering high quality of care to our patients.

Please ensure that you read the Person Specification within the Job Description as your application will be assessed against this.

About University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust:

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. We've recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement, and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care. One of our main objectives has been to become a top ten research trust, with the pharmacy department being an integral part of achieving this.

Staff benefits:

Staff can access discounts for local facilities such as local gyms and national discounts on everything from holidays to electricals. We have two nurseries that staff can use, one based on the Southampton General Hospital site (for UHS employees only) and one at the Western Community Hospital site (rated outstanding by Ofsted). Our modern, purpose-built nurseries provide regular childcare to children aged three months to school and have extended opening hours to help fit in with your schedule.

About Southampton:

The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.  The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.
