Applications are invited to apply for the post(s) of Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery, based at the Wessex Neurological Centre, University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust. The senior clinical fellow posts are aimed at experienced neurosurgical trainees of ST3 equivalence and above. Posts will commence as soon as possible. Contracts will be for 6-12 months, with the possibility of extension.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You would be joining a highly regarded neurosurgery team that provides a comprehensive surgical service across a number of neurosurgical conditions including neuro-oncology, neurovascular, head injury and skull base. As an integral part of the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) the team serves a population of over three million people across the South and the Channel Islands.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The fellow will work alongside the existing neurosurgical registrars. They will be expected to participate in theatre sessions, multi-disciplinary team meetings and clinics. They will have responsibility for the patients on the ward. There will be opportunity to participate in specific sub-specialty areas including spinal (as part of the Wessex Spinal Service) and functional neurosurgery.
The fellow will participate in the general neurosurgical rota on a 1 in 9 basis.
Teaching and training will be provided, as for our other registrars, including a named educational supervisor. There will be opportunities to participate in clinical research.

The Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) is looking for an experienced neurosurgical trainee (ST3 equivalence or above) to join our neurosurgery service.
Successful completion of a Foundation Programme or equivalent
Additional experience in Neurosurgery
Proven ability to manage acute neurosurgical emergencies
Proven ability to prioritise tasks
Good insight into own abilities and experience
Importance of and ability in communication with patients and their carers
