Job overview

We are looking for innovative, passionate and professional nurses with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join our acute stroke rehabilitation and Hyper Stroke units at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

You will join our established team on ward F8; a 28 bedded acute stroke unit that works in collaboration with the therapy team to provide intense stroke rehabilitation for patients with complex needs.

HASU is currently a 13 bedded unit catering for all acute stroke admissions admitted directly from ED to commence on the stroke care pathway. Many of these patients are given thrombolysis treatment on the unit and if indicated may receive intra-arterial clot retrieval (mechanical thrombectomy) which has shown greatly improved patient outcomes in recent studies.

What you’ll do


  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for individual patients
  • Carry out all relevant aspects of nursing care, treatments, and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of observation, treatment, and patient/family care
  • Check and administer prescribed drugs and intravenous drugs (as authorised by the sister/charge nurse or senior nurse)


What we’re looking for

In addition to the relevant qualifications and NMC registration, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • An interest in Neuroscience’s nursing
  • Awareness of evidence-based practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care
