Online applications are invited junior/senior fellow posts commencing 6 February 2019. In neurosciences intensive care/anaesthetics. This post is fixed term for 6 months initially, extendable to 12 months.


The Neuro ICU is a 13 bedded dedicated Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit. The unit admits approximately 650 patients per annum (200 severe head injuries, 140 SAH, 100 emergency neurosurgical cases, 200 elective neurosurgical cases, 20 neurology/general ICU cases).

This clinical fellow post is 1 of 12 doctors on a full shift rota which is well supported by dedicated consultant input. A proportion of the posts are at ST3 level and a proportion at F3 level and while previous ICU experience is preferable it is not essential. Applicants with Anaesthetics, medical, emergency medicine or surgical backgrounds will be considered. Support for study leave will be given. The unit is recognised by the Intensive Care Medicine Specialty training committee for advanced level training in intensive care medicine and for basic level training as part of the Southampton acute care common stem rotation. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in the clinical research trials and audits currently underway in NeuroICU.

Applicants must have completed foundation competencies or equivalent before starting.

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists) which will be published and available at time of offers.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)


Basic Salary MT03    £37,191                 Basic Salary MT04        £47,132 (depending on experience)


Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
