Online applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1-3) in Neonatology to run from August 2020 for six months in the first instance. Opportunities for an extension or a rotation to another Paediatric speciality (PICU, Cardiology) may be available to suitable applicants.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our busy Tertiary Level Neonatal Care team.

The UHS Neonatal Service based at the Princess Anne Hospital offers the full range of Neonatal Intensive Care facilities and provides the Network Neonatal Transport Service (SONeT). The Tertiary Fetal Medicine, Neonatal Surgery & Neonatal Cardiology services are supported by the Neonatal Service. There are approximately 6200 deliveries per year in the hospital and many of these are ‘High risk’ deliveries. The Neonatal Unit has 38 cots, 24 Intensive and High Care and 14 Special Care cots. Referrals for specialist care are received from surrounding hospitals. UHS is a lead centre within the Wessex Neonatal Network and provides the full range of sub speciality services.

The post would be suitable for trainees who are looking to gain tertiary neonatal exposure either for those with an interest in this or an allied speciality. There are opportunities for research within the department with particular interests in growth & nutrition and longer term outcomes and neurology (neonatal MRI and developmental outcome programmes). We would expect the post holder to hold full registration and ideally have some relevant experience.

The post holder will be encouraged to take part in the wide range of educational and training opportunities within the department that is a recognised centre in the National Grid for Higher Specialist Training in Neonatology. While these posts are not recognised formally as training posts by the Wessex Deanery it is anticipated that the educational opportunities available will match those of our recognised training posts.
