Applicants are invited to apply for the post of part time (5 PA’s) locum consultant in adult cystic fibrosis. This post is fixed term for 6 months.

This is a fixed term 6 month locum to cover sabbatical leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced physician to contribute to the inpatient and outpatient care of adult patients with cystic fibrosis(CF).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


  1. Be involved in the Adult CF MDT in directing care for our large population (including weekly MDT meetings and Radiology meetings)
  2. Undertake face to face and remote clinical assessment of patients
  3. Deal with telephone queries from patients with problems related to their CF
  4. Assist in the remote supervision of patients undergoing treatment with IV antibiotics at home


  1. A clinician with experience in the management of CF in adults who will be able to work independently
  2. A team player with experience of working in a large MDT
  3. An enthusiastic colleague who will be able to get involved in the further development of services within the unit


Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Person specification


Essential criteria
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or within 6 months of CCT
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualifications


Essential criteria
  • Training and wide experience in respiratory medicine sufficient to practise as an independent consultant.
  • Experience in managing patients with cystic fibrosis both as inpatients and outpatients

Aptitudes and skills required

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use both spoken and written English
  • Ability to take responsibility and provide leadership where appropriate
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multidisciplinary basis with all levels of staff

Special requirements of the post

Desirable criteria
