University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic radiotherapy electronic engineer to provide equipment technical services to radiotherapy and to offer specialist technical advice to clinical and scientific staff.

The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated radiotherapy engineers in provision of first line support to the radiotherapy equipment.  This is an exciting time to join UHS, with an ongoing equipment replacement programme replacing all of our linear accelerators to deliver a fleet of 6 Elekta Versa HD linacs.  The first 2 are in place supported by Exactrac imaging systems and Hexapod couches to allow us to offer efficient, effective targeted treatments to our patients.  The rest are scheduled for replacement over the next 2 years. The Oncology Centre currently also has the only mobile electron accelerator in the UK for delivery of intraoperative radiotherapy, 2 dedicated CT Simulators and an Xstrahl 200 as well as HDR remote afterloading equipment.  The equipment is networked with Mosaiq which provides an integrated Oncology IT system.

Key tasks will surround providing specialist skills and knowledge in analysing and repairing complex faults on radiotherapy and associated equipment including those beyond the scope of the manufacturers supplied info, and that which is no longer supported by the manufacturers. You will liaise with manufacturers/service agents on highly complex technical issues relating to the repair, maintenance and operation of radiotherapy and associated equipment, the provision of spare parts, technical newsletters, upgrades, modifications, engineering support, training, clinical applications and specialist tools and test equipment.

The successful applicant should ideally have relevant experience in the servicing, repair and maintenance of radiotherapy equipment, hold a degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) and should be eligible for registration as a clinical technologist. Appointment at a lower grade would be considered for applicants with experience of repair of other complex equipment but without radiotherapy specific knowledge.   Equipment specific training will be provided.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. We've recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement, and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care.

This position comes with a £2000 recruitment incentive and then £2000 per year retention bonus.

Recruitment payments are not applicable to individuals who are moving from Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust or any NHS staff working within Hampshire or the Isle of Wight.   These Trusts include;  Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust,  Solent NHS Trust,  Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust,  Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust,  Isle of Wight NHS Trust,  South Central Ambulance NHS Trust.

Recruitment and retention premium payments are subject to terms and conditions and are paid on a pro rata basis.

Closing date for applications will be Thursday 28 February.
