We are looking to recruit experienced Estates Officer (Mechanical Bias) into our team at University Hospital Southampton Foundation NHS Trust.
You will have suitable relevant experience within engineering including disciplines such as;
• HVAC engineer
• Pipefitting/plumbing
• Service Technician
• Building Services Engineer
• Mechanical Engineer
You will possess the following qualities;
• Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings and documents
• Proven fault finding skills
• Detailed technical, regulatory & industry best practise knowledge of mechanical systems (Vent, Water, Compressed gasses etc)
• Working understanding of safe isolation procedures & safe working practises
• Flexible approach to work depending on needs of team
• Keenness to develop their skillset and knowledge
• Strong communication skills – written & verbal
Typical Duties Include:
• Diagnosis and rectification of persistent faults & systemic performance concerns
• Review of design proposals
• Working with maintenance contractors to deliver routine maintenance
• Undertaking isolation of mechanical systems to enable works
• Issuing of PTWs
• Providing technical support to workshop staff & projects team
• Manage Supervisors/Technicians/Trade Staff/Contractors
• Use of technical tools & equipment to monitor and assess system performance
Manage Management software & KPI
The role will include working with the following systems:
• AHUs
• Heat Exchangers
• Cooling Towers
• LTHW & Chilled Water
• Motors
• Steam
• Potable Systems
• BMS/Controls

Requirements and Skills
Essential
• Time served apprenticeship and qualification to HNC or equivalent (C&G level 3 etc) in mechanical or building services discipline
• Proven fault finding skills
• Computer Literacy including fluency with MS Office suite and use of internet search engines
• Understanding of Health & Safety requirements including risk assessments & Method Statements
• Work independently without supervision
• Flexible approach to working as role likely to develop
Desirable
• Previous experience within healthcare engineering
• Previous experience managing a team
• Previous experience working with Safe Systems of Work/PTW’s
• Experience within other associated trades or disciplines
• HNC or higher in an engineering discipline
• Supervisory/Managerial Experience
Core working hours are 0730-1530 mon – fri, however the successful applicant will be expected to take part in an oncall roster that typically requires oncall 1-day-in-10.
Weekday oncall requires site attendance 1400-2200 and oncall from home 2200-0730
Weekend oncall requires site attendance 0730-1530 (paid as overtime or lieu) and oncall from home 1530-0730
Call outs are paid as overtime or lieu with a minimum payment of 2hours per call.
The Estates Maintenance department has a demonstrable track record in developing staff to enhance personal learning through training and promotional opportunities.
