We’re looking for people to join our Taplins nurseries team at the University Hospital Southampton, NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) on a part time basis.

Do you want to be part of friendly, close-knit team providing superb standards of childcare?

Do you love nothing more than seeing a child progress, knowing that you’ve played a key part in their development? Are you hardworking, friendly and dependable – and looking for your next challenge?

Do you want to work for and support the NHS?

If so, we would love to hear from you.

Our nursery staff care for children aged 3 months to 5 years, planning and carrying out activities in line with the Early Years’ curriculum. They are also responsible for evaluating the activities, and for maintaining online learning journals via Tapestry.

Main duties of the job

You can read an overview of the main duties of the role in the section below: Job Description and Main Responsibilities.

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have a part time opportunities within our Taplins nursery at Southampton General Hospital working 28.5 hours across the week

Our working hours are between 7am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday, so you need to be flexible to work shift patterns within these hours.

Our part time staff work specific days during the week, and our full time posts are worked over 4 days giving you a day off in the week!

You will be responsible for evaluating the activities, and for maintaining online learning journals via Tapestry

You need to be confident and adaptable, and have a passion for working in an Early Years setting.

You also need to be great at liaising with parents/carers and we’re particularly looking for proactive people with brilliant ideas to help us continuously improve our services.

We ask that all our nursery staff have an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and safeguarding, with demonstrable previous Early Years’ experience.
