How would you like to be part of a regional paediatric orthopaedic unit?

Do you want to work in a busy caring environment?

Yes - Then this is the job for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Southampton Children’s Hospital on G3 orthopaedic and trauma unit for highly motivated, dedicated registered nurses to join our friendly, supportive nursing team.  G3 specialises in orthopaedic surgery accepting tertiary referrals from across the Wessex Network and is part of the Trust’s paediatric trauma centre; the only one on the south coast.

G3 has a dedicated clinical facilitator to support staff and the Children’s Hospital offers fantastic training and development opportunities, giving you the best possible platform to achieve the career you want, with HDU in house training and specialist orthopaedic development days.

G3 is a 20 bedded unit catering for those who require orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation; including specialist spinal surgery, and major trauma patients.  The ward has 2 high dependency beds to support children undergoing spinal surgery.  G3 cares for babies, children and young people up to the age of 18. It also supports a number of medical patients, particularly over busy winter months, giving staff a wide experience and breadth of skills.

In this role, you will:

  • provide a high standard of individualised nursing care
  • communicate effectively with a multi disciplinary team at UHS
  • maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and patient/family care

Along with the relevant qualifications, we are looking for you to demonstrate:

  • evidence of on-going professional development
  • good written and oral communication skills
  • awareness of evidence based practice
  • mentorship experience

The flexibility to work the full range of shift patterns within 24 hours is essential and previous experience as a qualified nurse in a paediatric environment is desirable. The unit would welcome newly qualified nurses also, but applicants would need to apply for these roles through the Children’s Hospital NQN process (see separate NHS jobs advert).

We’ve worked hard as a Trust to make improve the efficiency of our services and as a result, we are currently in financial surplus. We are one of England's largest acute teaching trusts and have recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. In the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked;

      • seventh in the country for staff engagement
      • fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care

Why Live and work in Southampton City?

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.

The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.

We look forward to receiving your applications and are more than happy to accommodate informal visits and chats. For further information please contact Lucia Lazzeri-Ford as below.
