Endoscopy is undergoing an exciting expansion – we are building a 6th procedure room enabling us to carry out procedures under General Anaesthetic within our unit.

We are therefore expanding our workforce and seeking motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic Staff nurses to join our endoscopy services team.  Previous endoscopy experience is not essential, as we can provide full training and support to the successful candidate.

Working in endoscopy

Endoscopy is a demanding environment, constantly modernising to deliver high quality services within current healthcare demands, however in return it does provide an exciting opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

At UHS, we’re always improving our services, and our endoscopy department is currently undergoing a building project to upgrade the care we provide to patients.  Alongside this, we’ll be upskilling our endoscopy nurses to recover patients from general anaesthetic, enabling us to develop our workforce, and so applications are welcomed from staff with backgrounds in recovery to support this development.

The unit is currently open Mon – Sun 8am – 6pm Sat – Sun 8-2pm, with the intention of extending these hours following the unit expansion.

Our department

  • works alongside a wide range of leading clinicians
  • is a tertiary referral centre, taking complex patients from across the region
  • is a GI bleed centre, taking emergency referrals from neighbouring hospitals
  • participates in a variety of research programmes
  • is a JAG accredited training centre

We can offer you

  • opportunities to develop both personally and professionally within a supportive environment
  • opportunities to enhance your skills and be part of a forward-thinking team
  • initial one-to-one training and support, with your own allocated mentor
  • opportunities to be involved in GRS and JAG accreditation activities

If you’re a forward-thinking individual who’s eager to hone your clinical skills in an endoscopy department that’s leading the way, then we want to hear from you.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is one of England's largest acute teaching trusts. We've recently been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement, and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care. One of our main objectives has been to become a top ten research trust, with the pharmacy department being an integral part of achieving this.

Staff benefits

Staff can access discounts for local facilities such as local gyms and national discounts on everything from holidays to electricals. We have two nurseries that staff can use, one based on the Southampton General Hospital site (for UHS employees only) and one at the Western Community Hospital site (rated outstanding by Ofsted). Our modern, purpose-built nurseries provide regular childcare to children aged three months to school and have extended opening hours to help fit in with your schedule.

About Southampton

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep.  The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.

Closing date for applications Thursday 25 October.
