There has never been a more exciting time to join the paediatric workforce in the emergency department (ED) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).We are looking for enthusiastic and committed registered nurses to join our expanding team.

Our children’s ED and the paediatric assessment have recently joined to make our new children’s emergency and trauma department.If you’re a registered children’s nurse with an interest in emergency care–this is a great time to join our team.

Within a large teaching hospital we’re also the regional children’s major trauma centre. The new children’s emergency and trauma centre is anticipated to see approximately 30,000 children and young people. The purpose build service is a standalone department offering the following facilities – an 11 trolley acute illness and injury service, a safe room, eight bedded children short stay, children’s X-ray within the service, a treatment/procedural room.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


You will form an integral part of our multi-disciplinary team providing excellent, high quality care to our paediatric population. You will be providing a high standard of individualised patient care demonstrating the Trust values through your work.

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
Desirable criteria
  • Desire to become trained in the specialty of Emergency Nursing.
  • Acute children’s nursing experience.
