There has never been a more exciting time to join the paediatric workforce in the emergency department (ED) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We are looking for enthusiastic and committed registered nurses to join our expanding team.
Our children’s ED and the paediatric assessment have recently joined to make our new children’s emergency and trauma department. If you’re a registered children’s nurse with an interest in emergency care – this is a great time to join our team.
Within a large teaching hospital we’re also the regional children’s major trauma centre. The new children’s emergency and trauma centre is anticipated to see approximately 30,000 children and young people. The purpose build service is a standalone department offering the following facilities – an 11 trolley acute illness and injury service, a safe room, eight bedded children short stay, children’s X-ray within the service, a treatment/procedural room. The department is also aiming to open the new resuscitation room the end of the year.
The benefit of the new service is the integrated skills of a PAU nursing team and a children ED team, streamlined to improve the experience for children requiring emergency care. The service is part of the Southampton Children Hospital strategy to ensure children’s nursing standards are maintained.
Flexibility to work the full range of shifts within a 24 hour shift pattern is essential.
You will form an integral part of our multi-disciplinary team providing excellent, high quality care to our paediatric population. You will be providing a high standard of individualised patient care demonstrating the Trust values through your work.
We are looking for motivated and passionate nurses to join our friendly and dynamic team. This is a fast paced environment so excellent organisational and prioritisation of care skills are essential. If you are able to demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude with a desire to provide effective and efficient care this is the place for you!
The department has a reputation for innovation and development and welcomes new ideas. We offer excellent learning opportunities to support your commitment to your professional development and that of others. Strong nursing leadership includes a dedicated matron, consultant nurses and advanced practitioners to guide and support you. Every member of the team has a responsibility to safeguard and protect both adults and children and the trust is committed to all safeguarding legislation.
As one of the largest acute teaching Trust’s in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. We believe you deserve the best possible surroundings in which to do your job and we want to support you in doing your job to the best of your ability.
