We are able to offer an exciting new permanent band 7 dietetic role, (0.5wte) to work within our paediatric allergy service. You will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team based at Southampton Children’s Hospital who deliver specialist allergy services across the region. The caseload will be mainly outpatient based but experience of working with patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting is desirable. The post holder will be a qualified dietitian, currently registered with the HCPC, with relevant clinical experience and CPD. This will include evidence of skills and knowledge related to food allergy. An understanding of the nutritional challenges people with food allergy experience is also important.
Aside from strong clinical skills we need someone who is a good team player, with evidence of being able to manage a busy caseload, delivering on both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities. The successful applicant will also have excellent communication skills and evidence of MDT working. Demonstration of initiative and ability to work independently is also required. You may be required to participate in student training for B and C placements.
The Southampton Children’s Hospital (part of University Hospital Southampton FT) is a centre of excellence for many specialties including: nephrology, gastroenterology, neonatal, oncology, cystic fibrosis, ketogenic, diabetes and respiratory and provides award winning services for these. You will join our team of specialist paediatric dietitians, assisting with the provision of acute dietetic support to Southampton Children’s Hospital, working alongside paediatric specialist consultants, nurse specialists and dietetic colleagues, to provide support to in-patients and multidisciplinary clinics for both local and regional services. We are committed to research and the paediatric dietetic service is actively involved in clinical audit and research projects and there will be scope to develop this within the role.

The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs approximately 100 staff including dietitians, speech and language therapists, nutrition nurse specialists, assistants and administration staff working across acute and community services and providing training for student dietitians on B and C placements. We have clinical experts working across the range of specialities who take a proactive and imaginative approach to delivering a patient and family centred service. CPD opportunities are well supported through a robust appraisal process with staff encouraged through a supportive framework to submit work for publication or presentation.
