Job overview

UHS Estates Limited (UEL) are looking for a number of experienced warehouse and materials handling staff, to join the team as Materials Operatives within Theatre services.  This is a new role, providing non-clinical support for the trust's operating theatres and catheter labs, and will be based between Boyatt Wood, Eastleigh and the UHS main campus.

The service supports the operating theatres and labs of a 24/7 acute teaching hospital - providing major trauma and countless tertiary services across the South of England - ensuring that the correct theatre is available, with the correct equipment, the correct consumables and surgical instrumentation, at the correct time.

This role will be key in ensuring the right equipment and consumable goods are the right right place, at the right time, to ensure that the clinical services are treat patients efficiently and effectively, with lots of support from a dedicated management team within UEL.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your Responsibilities

What you’ll do

The postholder will be part of a small team responsible for ensuring that consumable goods used in the labs and theatres are well-managed, stock levels are well-maintained and that everything is in the right place at the right time.  We’re looking for a small team who work well together, with good communication skills, both within the team, and with clinical users (UEL customers). 

The successful candidates will need a keen eye for detail, as well as having some experience in utilising IT and data platforms that are used with the hospital acute care sector, and a background of working in materials handling and/or warehouse roles will be advantageous.  Those with experience as drivers are also encouraged to apply.

The team will liaise with clinical team members and will be key in providing an effective stock handling and management function.  Stock rotation, stock counting and maintaining safe and tidy store rooms will be concepts that you’ll need to be familiar with.  You will also be tasked within working in the UEL warehouse facility, so experience of warehouse working may be beneficial.

You will also be integral to the development and growth of UEL Managed Theatres as the overall project is rolled out and implemented across new specialities with the operating theatres and catheter labs.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a conscientious, hard-working, team player to join our team in UEL Theatres.  Good IT skills and good communication skills will be essential, as well as the ability to organise your workload in a logical way.  You will need to be reliable, be able to work under pressure, and able to motivate yourself and others.

The ability to prioritise tasks and escalate where there are risks to services is also an important quality.

Additional information

The ability to work between the Boyatt Wood site and the main hospital campus is required.
