An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Therapy Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) for a suitably qualified physiotherapist to join our established adult musculoskeletal and orthopaedic therapy service on a part-time basis (18.75 hrs/week)

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Trust is now a UK Major Trauma Centre. As a combined Therapy Department, employing over 200 WTE Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and B2-4 Therapy support staff, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality Therapy intervention across a wide range of acute and outpatient settings.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for a dynamic physiotherapist with musculoskeletal outpatient and orthopaedic experience that is highly motivated and keen to further their knowledge and expertise in this area.

The successful applicant will join our Outpatient MSK and Orthopaedic Band 6 rotation program where they will be able to develop their skills within the different specialist areas of MSK outpatients, Major Trauma, and Elective Orthopaedics. This presently includes the following areas;

  • Upper Quadrant- Complex upper limb patients supported by highly specialist upper limb therapists. This rotation also involves working in Orthopaedic hand clinics alongside consultants and learning to manage complex Hand conditions.
  • Lower Quadrant- Varied caseload of complex lower limb patients supported by highly specialist lower limb therapists, also incorporating Specialist Emergency Department Clinic assessing acute patients, triaging acute injuries, and working with limb reconstruction patients
  • Occupational Health / Hydrotherapy / Rheumatology- Varied caseload of acute occupational health and long-term conditions supported by appropriate clinical Specialists. This rotation involves treating undiagnosed Occupational Health referrals. It also involves running Hydrotherapy sessions and visiting Spinal and Rheumatology Clinics to support your development.
  •  Self referral- All our Outpatient MSK rotations include clinics dedicated to the self-referral scheme whereby any member of UHS staff can self-refer to Physiotherapy.
  • Orthopaedic Trauma- As a major trauma centre this is an exciting opportunity to work on the orthopaedic trauma wards, managing complex trauma patients and learning off experienced specialist trauma Physiotherapist’s. This rotation can also include some involvement with the Lower Limb Reconstruction Clinic.
  • Orthopaedic Elective- As a tertiary centre specialising in complex revision surgery you would be involved in managing complex revision surgery as part of this rotation alongside day-to-day management of staff on the elective orthopaedic ward.

The post holder will also be involved in the provision of our orthopaedic weekend service, as well as participating on the evening / night respiratory on call rota. We are committed to providing any extra training and development required for the individual to achieve both competency and confidence in these areas.

You will benefit from regular support and supervision from an experienced team of Therapists up to and including Consultant Physiotherapists and will benefit from the well established In-service training programme.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals who are able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, are able to work effectively within our team and can evidence their involvement in service improvement, teaching and audit as well as the relevant clinical experience.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trust’s in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. We believe you deserve the best possible surroundings in which to do your job and we want to support you in doing your job to the best of your ability.

As a Trust, we support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss this at interview.
