An exciting opportunity has arisen within Southampton Children’s Hospital’s, Children’s Respiratory Team for a dedicated registered paediatric nurse with some leadership experience to join our friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team as a Children’s Respiratory Nurse Specialist. We are pleased to offer a full time, 37.5 hours per week, 6 month fixed term secondment opportunity split between the General Respiratory and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia services.
Within this band 6 role you will be supported to undertake the Level 7 History Taking and Physical Assessment Course.

Southampton Children’s Hospital is a tertiary centre for providing specialist services including respiratory, cystic fibrosis (CF), long term ventilation (LTV), sleep and primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). We accept referrals from across the Wessex region, Channel Islands and the West Country for some of the specialist services. We are a cohesive multidisciplinary team working closely with other subspecialty teams to ensure the best outcomes for our patients and their families. We maintain close links with Southampton Centre of Biomedical Research leading and participating in exciting research projects locally and in collaboration with national and international groups.

Work within the multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent care to our patients on an inpatient, day case and outpatient basis locally under the leadership of the band 7 team.
Act as a role model to nursing staff, encouraging effective working relationships and development of a cohesive nursing team.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients and their families.
Offer telephone advice to families and professionals across the region.
Deliver parent education for children and families with respiratory conditions and those with tracheostomies.
Deliver education to professionals locally.
The applicant should be motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with maturity in pressurised situations. You will be expected to show:
Evidence of leadership skills
Good planning and organisation skills
Evidence of effective communication skills and the ability to provide safe care of the highest quality to all of our patients and their relatives.
Applicants’ should have post qualifying experience in a relevant specialty which includes working in an acute paediatric environment. The applicant will be expected to show good co-ordination and leadership skills participating in workload planning and coordination of care of patients within our caseload.
