Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a  Mammographer to join our multi-professional team at Princess Anne Hospital Breast Unit within the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). 

The service delivers both primary breast screening and symptomatic mammography. The breast unit is fully digital with three mammography units, one being a tomosynthesis system. In addition we have three mobile units to provide primary screening to our catchment area

About the team

We are a friendly multi-disciplinary team committed to providing a first class service to our patients at our base unit and mobile units. Additionally we provide cover for the Symptomatic clinics at Princess Anne Hospital. The department supports skill mix and we employ Assistant practitioners and Radiographers in role extension. The department is committed to personal and professional development with everyone supported in CPD.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ability to work in a multi-professional team is essential, as is a commitment to the provision of a high quality service. You will be rotated through all aspects of breast care work, including screening, assessments, biopsies, mobile work and symptomatic clinics.

In addition to holding the Diploma of the College of Radiographers or relevant Radiography Degree, you must hold a UK recognised Post Graduate Award in Mammography or Certificate of Competence in Mammography from the College of Radiographers.

What we're looking for

  • HCPC registered

  • Degree (BSc Honours in Radiography or equivalent qualification)

  • UK recognised Post Graduate Award in Mammography or Certificate of Competence in Mammography from the College of Radiographers.

  • Experience working in X-ray

  • Willingness to take part in a flexible rota

  • Team work ethic

  • You will be a car driver, with full driving licence, or ability to travel between hospital sites or for necessary patient visits

Essential criteria
  • Post Graduate Award in Mammography
  • HCPC registered
  • Sound knowledge of IR(me)R 2000, IRR regulations and clinical governance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP and Quality Assurance Programmes (QA)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a breast screening unit

Aptitudes and skills required

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of Manual Handling
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate in Word
  • Evidence of personal and professional development and evidence of audit
